Chandler, Homecoming 2007

Paradox of “Homecoming” when the first meaning of the word relates to former students who come back to their home school and sometimes they are just a few. I presume that before Homecoming, which is always around the same time of year, there are former students who get in touch with one another “No I won’t be able to make it” “Yes, I’ll be coming, are you going?”

But creating the right environment to welcome them is a perfect way to be ready to the eventuality of their presence.

Paradoxe des Homecoming où la signification première évoque les anciens qui reviennent et pourtant parfois peu sont présents. Je présume que certains communiquent entre eux quelque temps avant le Homecoming qui se passe chaque année à peu près à la même date « Vas-tu à la réunion de cette année ? Non je ne pourrais pas venir » « Oui je serai là , et toi ? »

Mais créer une ambiance prête à les accueillir est une façon merveilleuse d’être toujours prêts à l’éventualité de leur présence.

Homecoming is organized a little bit differently each year and includes or not former highschoolers who sometimes even come to dispute a sportive match against the current students and/or participate to the Parade. There is a whole week of preparation taking place after school hours. There is also the coronation night of a Homecoming King/Queen at the football game. A lot of excitement for everyone.

Le « Homecoming » qui pourrait être traduit par “réunion des anciens” est organisé un peu différemment chaque année. Les anciens de l’école reviennent et parfois même participent à un match sportif contre les étudiants ainsi qu’à la parade. La préparation se passe après les heures de classes et dure en général une semaine. Le vendredi soir il y a un match de football américain où l’on découvre le roi et la reine du Homecoming, élus par les étudiants eux-mêmes. Beaucoup d’ambiance !

The homecoming Parade is an annual tradition for Chandler High School and the traffic halts for half an hour on Arizona Avenue. On Friday the parade included bands, clubs and floats and in the evening the football game was won against Cesar Chavez High School.
Tonight is the Homecoming Dance.

La parade est une tradition annuelle pour «Chandler High School » et la circulation s’arrête sur Arizona Avenue pendant une demi-heure. Vendredi le défilé des orchestres, des clubs et des chars fut suivi dans la soirée par un jeu de football gagné contre l’école de Cesar Chavez.
Ce soir il y aura la danse de « Homecoming »

Change...in the Valley

In the valley of Phoenix the type of grass growing and withstanding the high temperatures in the summer is perennial but goes dormant during the winter because of the climate. It then appears dead and yellow.
Beginning of fall the grass is scalped and over seeded with winter grass which will die the following spring.
Personally, and we are not the only ones, we chose to have a winter grass which does not go completely dormant but does not look too cool in the winter. As a result I have more time for reading your blogs and writing this…

Dans la vallée de Phoenix la sorte d’herbe qui pousse l’été et résiste aux fortes températures est vivace mais hiberne l’hiver à cause du climat. Elle apparaît alors morte et jaune. Au début de l’automne l’herbe est scalpée et réensemencée avec de l’herbe d’hiver qui mourra au printemps.
Personnellement et nous ne sommes pas les seuls, nous avons choisi d’avoir une herbe qui n’hiberne pas à 100% mais qui n’est pas très esthétique en hiver. La contrepartie : j’ai plus de temps pour lire vos blogs et pour écrire ceci…

What's the deal?

There is a little game going on with houses on the market right now in Chandler (and somewhere else probably too…) Let’s say we want to buy one of this builder’s houses but can’t sell ours, this builder buys our house and trades it for one of his, all proportion kept of course.
Neighbors (of the sold house) are starting to complain that it has and will have a negative impact on the value of existing neighborhoods including their own house.
Is it a way to keep the market going?

Il y a un petit jeu ces jours-ci à Chandler et probablement ailleurs aussi. Disons que nous voulons acheter une maison mais n’arrivons pas à vendre la nôtre… le constructeur achète donc nôtre maison en nous l’échangeant contre une des siennes, toute proportion gardée bien sur. Les voisins (de la maison vendue) commencent à se plaindre de l’impact négatif sur la valeur des maisons dans leur voisinage, la leur inclue.
Est-ce une façon pour le marché de continuer à exister en temps réel ?
