Yellow blackbirds/yellow everything

757
Chandler, Oasis Park, July 2011

The sight is probably the least of these yellow headed blackbirds’ concern, only the close-by cornfield  as a direct food pantry probably matters.

"In the midst of the word he was trying to say,
In the midst of his laughter and glee,
He had softly and suddenly vanished away---
For the Snark was a Boojum, you see."
Final verse for “The Hunting of the Snark” Lewis Carroll 1874

Yes this specimen of Parry's Agave can hold in a single frame! It saps all it's resources at once, blooms only once in it's lifetime and dies.

This funny landscaped house in Central Phoenix is hard to miss. Gary Parsel who has been an artist almost forever exhibits his work directly in his front yard.
If you want to be neighbors with Gary there are a few houses on sale on the same street…

By curiosity the other day I visited an open house across the Heard Museum:
A 2 story unit very close to downtown Phoenix, on Central in the Financial district. 2 bedrooms,1686SF with parking and elevator. Listed at $ 312,000.00.
I won’t go through the details…

Marguerite’s comment from the other day: we should be able to move around a statue, to caress it with the eyes, if not with your hands, to feel the volumes, the size, the either warm or cold material and the texture.

The Heard Museum is the perfect place to discover the Native cultures and art… downtown Phoenix.

Here in the Nichols Sculpture Garden, an exhibit of artist Retha Walden Gambaro -born in 1917- , a Creek Indian (a Southeast tribe) who grew up in Arizona. She works in stone and transforms her work into bronze.
In my opinion a very spiritual exhibition.

Sorry I am a pretty bad reporter : no « dust storm » image ! Dust storm because despite the word “desert” applying to Phoenix there is no sand over here, only dust.
I went outside our home in the front yard but came back inside pretty quickly. Driving the car is risky, it would damage the motor which would need a cleaning. A cleaning would have been more expensive than a picture…
The little bit of video was taken when I started hearing the noise outside, later it was too dark plus the cloud coming from Phoenix was probably well depleted when arriving over here in the East Valley.
I am sure there will be more coming soon.

The Palo Verde Beetle

Photobucket
          At home, June 2011

Not a very pleasant bug to look at or to listen to… As larva they feed on Palo Verde’s roots, hence their name.
And we are sure glad to have bug screens!

Such nonsense!

736 1
Chandler, July 2011

Since December 2010 it’s legal to buy certain fireworks which were illegal to buy before BUT illegal to use them depending on: their type, the day they are used or the place you are at… we are not allowed to use them in Chandler.
I think Apache Junction is the only place you can use them all year round and anywhere…
Go and figure!
Among safety tips, this one: “Never point or throw fireworks at another person.”
And I would add my own recommendation: speak to the Arizona fire victims before having fun with these kind of toys…
