The Mesa Art Center had an interesting Art Project going on last month. An extension to or of the "Land Art?"

Following Friday’s Intermezzo…
This is a 25 foot tall sculpture inspired by the “American gothic” a dual portrait or a farm couple painted by Grant Wood in1930. The painting is an example of the Regionalism movement and has become a cultural icon.
John Seward Johnson, an artist sculpting statues of everyday people, often imitating other people’s work but adding some message to it.

Marguerite-Marie tagged me. "I love your blog" is a nice thing to say and I present this same "tag" to everyone who comes here and to whom I leave a comment when I visit their own blog.

Mesa, 2007, on Center & Main Street

This Art Center, which opened in 2005, was designed by a team of two architecture firms: Boora (Portland, Or) and DWL (Phoenix, Az) and Planners of Phoenix.
During the day it’s a place to gather with friends, listen to free performances or eat lunch. At night same thing plus the pleasure of lights and shadows and performances inside
.

Or) and DWL (Phoenix, Az)

Mesa, 2009

On Saturday night Joan Baez was performing at the Mesa Arts Center and yes she sang “The night they drove Old Dixie down.”
What a lady! What a voice and how exciting it was.

Joan Baez était, samedi soir, au Centre d’Art de Mesa et oui elle a chanté “The night they drove Old Dixie down.”
Quelle grande dame! Quelle voix et quelle émotion.

I Am A Wanderer (2008)

…I am a wanderer, feet on the ground,

Heart on my sleeve and my head in the clouds.

I own the star above some distant shore,

Wandering ever more.

Written by Steve Earle

Honest Lullaby (1979)

And often have I wondered

How the years and I survived

I had a mother who sang to me

An honest lullaby
…
Honey, you've got a mother who sings to you
Dances on the strings for you
Opens her heart and brings to you
An honest lullaby

Written by Joan Baez

Je me suis bien souvent demandée
...
Mon chéri, tu as une mère

On Monday "MLK Day"

MLK Day in downtown Mesa, 2009

…
I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
…
Marthin Luther King Jr. - August 28th 1963. Washington, D.C.
…
…
Marthin Luther King Jr. 28 août 1963, Washington D.C.
