Namaki asked me to publish the 6th pictures of this very blog... Here it is...

Chandler citizens were asked, at the time, to help in any way to the rescue of this water tower which was supposed to be demolished... No news since except that, two years later, the tower still stands.

A l'époque, il fut demandé aux habitants de Chandler d'aider à sauver ce château d'eau qui était voué à la démolition. Je n'ai lu aucune nouvelle depuis à son sujet mais, deux ans plus tard, il a toujours bon pied bon oeil!

Here is the new headquarters of the Fire Department Administration (not an active fire station) behind the new under construction City Hall.

Voici les nouveaux quartiers du Centre Administratif des sapeurs pompiers derrière la nouvelle mairie en construction.

Meanwhile… nearby a mesquite tree and a brick wall are spending some quality time together.

Pendant ce temps là... juste à côté, un mesquite et un mur de brique partagent un bon moment ensemble.

Right now the City of Chandler is leasing in these two office centers, two block away of the future City Hall.

The new five-story City Hall, at a cost of $ 76 millions, will be ready in the fall of 2010,
Till then Chandler City Hall will continue to rent in an office center very close by.
I am hopingt that, because of the construction turmoil, it won’t hurt too much the local merchants who are already having a hard time and I am hoping too that the budget deficit for next year won’t hurt us… taxpayers.

La nouvelle mairie de cinq étages sera prête à l’automne 2010. Coût de l’opération : 76 millions de dollars.
En attendant la mairie continuera de louer des locaux tout près dans un centre de bureaux.
J’espère seulement qu’à cause de toute cette agitation, les commerces de proximité, que la crise a déjà touchés, ne subiront pas plus de dommages. J’espère également que le déficit budgétaire prévu pour l’année prochaine n’aura pas de conséquence sur nous les payeurs de taxes.

Facing the crisis

The McCullough/Price House, which is on the register of Historic Places of Arizona, is going to reduce its activities due to the crisis. It will reopen in the fall for rentals only.
Inside the place you could find a display cabinet with old parts of the house and a large collection of pictures as well as boards explaining life in the 1930’s.

La McCullough-Price House, qui fait partie du registre des monuments historiques d’Arizona, va devoir restreindre ses activités du à la crise. Elle rouvrira ses portes à l’automne pour proposer différentes sortes de locations.
A l’intérieur on pouvait y voir une vitrine renfermant quelques restes de la maison ainsi qu’une belle collection de photos et des panneaux retraçant de la vie dans les années 30.

McCullough Price House

Next to the Chandler Mall On Chandler Village dr. 2009

This 1938 Revival style house, built by William McCullough, was donated to the city by the Price Family; it was then renovated and opened in 2007 to the public.
The place acts like a visitors Center. There is a gallery (a photographic exhibit about Arizona’s resorts right now) plus you can rent the place for any kind of meetings.
The light was kind of weird that morning.

Cette maison de style Néo-classique construite en 1938 par William McCullough a été donnée à la ville par la famille Price. Elle fut ensuite restaurée et ouverte au public en 2007.
Elle joue le rôle d’un syndicat d’initiative. Il y a une galerie (à l’heure actuelle une exposition de photos sur les centres de villégiature d’Arizona) et des salles qui peuvent être louées pour diverses réunions.
La lumière était singulière ce matin là.

On Saturday night Joan Baez was performing at the Mesa Arts Center and yes she sang “The night they drove Old Dixie down.”
What a lady! What a voice and how exciting it was.

Downtown Chandler, Arizona Ave & Chandler Blvd

There are four public libraries in Chandler, the one downtown is the largest branch and contains 450 000 volumes and magazines. The library which opened in 1996 offers wireless access to the internet, audio books and DVD’s without forgetting the gift shop and a coffee spot.
Could we ask for more?
In the hallway a metal sculpture by Kevin Berry “Staring into the sun” as a statement of the illumination of knowledge which comes from literature.

Quatre bibliothèques municipales à Chandler, celle du centre est la plus grande et abrite 450 000 volumes et magazines. La bibliothèque a ouvert ses portes en 1996, elle offre également l’accès gratuit à Internet, des livres audio et des dvd sans oublier une boutique souvenirs et un coin café.
Que demander de plus ?
Dans l’entrée, une sculpture en métal de Kevin Berry « Regard sur le soleil » comme le témoignage d’une connaissance éclairée naissant de la littérature.
