Long days

Photobucket
Gas station, Chandler

The economic crisis makes it harder and harder for day laborers to find employers. The hours pass slowly with little or no money in their pockets at the end of the day.

The festival celebrated its 10 year anniversary on Friday and Saturday of last week in Downtown Chandler. We could enjoy the sounds of jazz throughout the streets.

Frank Lloyd Wright

Downtown Chandler, Bronze -Igor Zorkin-

Frank Lloyd Wright and Dr. A.J. Chandler meet in 1927 in Phoenix and become friends. Mr. Wright even spend two winters in Chandler with his architectural apprentices working on an utopian community called Broadacre City. Two years later he builds a house of its own: Taliesin West, north of Phoenix.
I’ll write about it one day…

"Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you."

Diversity and Tolerance

Downtown Chandler, 2009

This is one of the two pictures I kept from the Multicultural Festival from last week downtown Chandler. I did not see any program and I don’t know anything about this very graceful young lady performing on stage an Indian dance, except for her name “Sampradaya.”

Dr Chandler (was born in 1858 in Canada and died in 1950 on the San Marcos premises)
He gave his own name to the town he established on Valentine’s Day in 1912 a few months after Arizona was admitted as the 48th State to the Union.
He built the San Marcos Hotel.
He was the first veterinarian of Arizona.

Monday morning: Hélène is tagging me to tell six random things about me in English:

Having to choose random things fast is a kind of chore to me and when I have something to do I have to do it as soon as possible to feel better.
That makes two.

Something contradictory about me: I like being alone but I like being around people too…

It’s hard to deal with me and be around when I am boiling inside.

Being surprised by someone or something makes my day. Thanks Helene!

I have to be able to check the time all the time losing track of it very easily.

Random things, random things I am not so sure anymore… I will tag six “not random people” tomorrow morning.

San Marcos Hotel (2) Remembrance

Downtown Chandler

A silhouette...

Georges Moustaki - Ma solitude -

For having so often slept with my solitude
I nearly made a friend out of her, a precious habit
She is never more than a step away, as faithful as a shadow
She followed me here and there to the four corners of the world
No I am never alone with my solitude.
Georges Moustaki - Ma solitude -

Mandala Tearoom (1)

135

Scottsdale

Meet Dominic and Joey at Mandala’s. They fill the room with charm, efficiency and discretion.
The Tearoom offers a great selection of organic teas and infusions as well as vegan dishes, I must say in an eclectic setting. Sometimes one can listen to local talents or even participate at a tea leaves reading.
Guess what I found in the restroom? Of course you will find out tomorrow.

"If you are cold, tea will warm you.
If you are too heated, it will cool you.
If you are depressed, it will cheer you.
If you are excited, it will calm you."
William Ewart Gladstone

Closer to the sky

Chandler, Las viendas Village

A great spot for a private conversation except when someone come by and takes your picture!
Two ways of communicating here: a V/greeting sign for the young lady and a visit card for the young man that I could not make out.
A week later this huge pot as well as a few more in the same area were removed!

Irony

Irony

Immigrants come and go downtown Chandler. A wall is being built between California, Texas, Arizona and Mexico. How is the economy sustained? What about the ecosystem…? Did you find out why I called this picture “Irony”?
