Statement out of clay

          Phoenix, July 2011

This sculpture has a diameter of 11 foot and was inspired by  “the Citadel at Erbil” in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Patricia Sannit explores the layering of time and history through clay.

La citadelle d’Erbil, un lieu archéologique  dans le Kurdistan Irakien a servi d’inspiration  pour  cette sculpture d’un diamètre d’à peu près trois mètres et demi. Patricia Sannit explore les couches superposées du temps et de l’histoire à travers l’argile.

Each one of the bricks has been made by hand by the artist’s friends, artists and students.

Chacune des briques a été faite à la main par des amis de l’artiste, des artistes et des étudiants.

John Schaefer’s exhibit “A desert illuminated” was not an exception. Beautiful macros of blooming cactuses.

L’exposition de John Schaefer “Un désert illuminé » ne fut pas une exception.

De superbes photos macro de cactus en fleurs.

Ludvic is turning junkyard finds around Phoenix into colorful abstract creations.

I must admit I was not too touched by this exhibit and just realized that I took only pictures of details… I like very much the idea of recycling though. 
There are  nicer photographs on the artist’s own site.

Je dois admettre que je n’ai pas été très marquée par cette exposition et je ne peux vous montrer que des détails de ces sculptures. Pourtant je dois admettre beaucoup aimer l'idée de recyclage. 
Il y a de  plus belles photos sur le site même de l’artiste.

Mesa, March 2011

A massive 18 tonnes boulder of Jade, named “Polar Pride” was discovered in 2000 in North Canada. It took five years to turn the boulder into a Buddha called “The Jade Buddha for Universal Peace.”

The Buddha has already travelled to Australia and Canada and is now in the US in Mesa, Az. Later it will  travel to Europe.

Un bloc de jade, baptisé "Fierté Polaire",  de 18 tonnes a été découvert au nord du Canada en 2000. Il fallut cinq ans pour sculpter ce bouddha appelé "Le Bouddha en jade pour la paix universelle."
La statue a déjà voyagé en Australie et au Canada, elle est maintenant aux Etats-Unis, à Mesa et partira ensuite pour l'Europe.

The Buddha is 8 feet tall  and weighs around 4.5 tons.

Le Bouddha mesure 2 mètres 50 et pèse environ 4 tonnes.

The Buddha inside the Mahabodhi Stupa in Bodh Gaya, India, is the model for the Great Jade Buddha. This Buddha was chosen because it is universally recognized by all Buddhists.

Le bouddha à l'intérieur du temple Mahabodhi à Bodh Gaya en Inde a servi de modèle pour ce bouddha de jade. Il a été choisi pour sa reconnaissance universelle par tous les bouddhistes.

Phoenix, December 2009 "When friends meet"

Last December I showed you a few of Allan Houser’s “by night” sculptures here and here as well as a brief summary of his life.
I wanted to go back a couple of times before the end of the exhibit but couldn’t make it.
Here are the pictures of what I saw, by day, last December:

En décembre je vous ai montré quelques sculptures d’Allan Houser, photos prises de nuit, ici et ici. Vous y trouverez un bref résumé de sa vie.

"The corn grinder"

“I’m a Chircahua Apache, and I’ll tell anybody in the world that I am. It’s good to be who you are. My family name Ha-o-zous means ‘pulling roots out of the ground.’ That refers to the practice of returning thanks to the earth whenever we take something from her. The Indians respected the earth and their deep connection to it, and that’s something to be proud of.”

"My art is devoted to the creation of doors. I see them as an ever-changing symbol for life. We walk through them every day, all day. They define inside from outside and the past from the present. They open up our world for us. I love using a variety of materials to construct each piece. It is my hope to communicate and bring to life a feeling of beauty, spirituality, and mystery with each door I create."
